While trolling through Derek Scruggs' blog today, I found a link to one of the most common counting habits for obsessives: where have you been? Douwe Osinga, one of Google's European engineers, has this hack posted on his web site. Have some fun and map where you've been:
Clearly, I'm an American creature of the coasts...though perhaps not so bad as some:
create your own visited states map
or check out these Google Hacks.
And I'm not sure if this is embarrassing or not...I feel relatively untraveled as an Omidyar Network denizen, but super-worldy relative to the norms for my hometown:
create your own visited countries map
Osinga has an intimidatingly long list of loose projects, and he's just one Googler. Should Google ever get focused on delivering the basics, we're all in trouble.
PS Anyone know how to resize images in Typepad when referencing them from a third-party site?

Thanks! (As you can see above, this clearly works.) When I tried doing that on Videoegg includes a few moons back, it didn't work....not sure why I assumed that it wouldn't work here. I really need to get out of my box more. :O

Thanks for all your great BlogHer blogging! To resize the image, after
img src="....UTVTVAWA"
type
width="400"
or however wide you want it to be.

Christine, interesting. My map clearly shows the path of a cross country trip I made several years ago. Without it I'd be entirely coastal!
